Carbon monoxide poisoning is poisoning caused by inhalation of the products of incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances through the respiratory tract, commonly known as gas poisoning. The mechanism of poisoning is that the affinity between carbon monoxide and hemoglobin is 200 to 300 times higher than the affinity between oxygen and hemoglobin. Therefore, carbon monoxide can easily combine with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin, causing hemoglobin to lose its oxygen-carrying ability and role, causing tissue suffocation. It has toxic effects on tissue cells throughout the body, especially the cerebral cortex.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is caused by the human body inhaling excessive amounts of carbon monoxide gas, which usually occurs when protection is inadequate or ventilation is poor. In northern my country, acute carbon monoxide poisoning is mostly caused by improper use of gas and water heaters, or insufficient combustion of coal when burning coal for heating.
