Isothermal exposure oxidation corrosion test of metals and alloys-Corrosion Testing-

Test Background

The isothermal exposure oxidation corrosion test of metals and alloys is suitable for continuous (the sample is not cooled during the test, and the mass of the sample is only weighed after the test) and discontinuous (the sample is cooled at a few predetermined but not necessarily regular time points during the test, and the mass of each sample is weighed serially) isothermal exposure tests of metal materials under high-temperature corrosion conditions in the presence of gas.

Scope of tests

Metals: Common metals include gold, silver, copper, iron, manganese, zinc, etc., which can be divided into ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, light metals, rare metals, heavy metals, precious metals, etc.
Alloy: It is classified as a certain alloy according to the name of the main metal with a large content in the alloy. It is generally divided into mixed alloys, solid solution alloys, intermetallic compound alloys, etc. Specific examples include solder, bismuth-cadmium alloy, brass composed of copper and zinc (β-brass, γ-brass and ε-brass), etc.

Test method

1. Heating method
The following heating method should be used:
a) The specimen with a bracket should be placed in the heating furnace at room temperature or test temperature.
b) When the sample is placed in an unheated heating furnace, wait until the gas fills the heating furnace before heating.
c) When the sample is placed into the heated furnace, inert gas should be introduced during the placement process.
2. Test cycle
When the sample temperature exceeds 97% of the set test temperature, it is defined as the start of the test. The test is terminated when the sample temperature is lower than 97% of the set test temperature.
3. Sample cooling
The sample with a bracket should be taken out of the heating furnace at the test temperature or when cooled to below 100°C. The sample removal temperature shall be determined by negotiation between the supplier and the purchaser. When taken out below 100°C, the cooling time to 100°C should be recorded.
